The Town of Bethany Beach
is pleased to offer a curbside recycling program
that began Town-wide in January 2008.
Participants in the
program will receive a 65 gallon wheeled container which will act as a
common container for all the recyclables listed below:
RECYCLABLES
Paper and Junk Mail
Newspapers, telephone books, office paper, flyers, catalogs, magazines and
wrapping paper.
Cardboard and
Paperboard
Corrugated appliances and storage boxes.
Cereal boxes and tissue boxes.
Plastic Bottles
Plastic milk jugs, soda, detergent, and shampoo bottles, plastic bags.
Cans
Aluminum and steel cans, empty aerosol cans, food and beverage cans, pet
food cans
Glass
Clear, green and brown glass containers.
The following materials may NOT be recycled
as part of this curbside recycling program: Any hazardous
materials, household hazardous wastes, oil, petroleum or grease wastes,
chemical wastes, dry waste, construction and demolition wastes, food wastes,
yard wastes, oil filters, batteries, tires, appliances, electronic goods,
and toxic wastes.
Participants in the
program may request 35 gallon carts, if they are a senior citizen, are
disabled or a single member household.
Pickup is scheduled from
May through September every Wednesday and October through April pickup is the
1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Place
recyclables out before 7:00 a.m. in the same location you put your regular
trash for pickup. This should always be in the alley, if the property
has alley access.
The cost to the home owner
is $44.00 a year from June 1st through May 31st. This cost will be billed with your yearly
tax/sanitation bill. There is no prorating of the bill, the flat fee for the
service is $44.00 regardless of the months you will actually use the
service.
Citizens may participate
in our recycling effort by filling out the application attached to this
notice and returning to the Town Hall or mailing to the address on the
application. The application is also available on the town’s website at
www.townofbethanybeach.com.
Special arrangements must be made for
communities that share a common dumpster. A representative of the condo
or homeowner’s association will need to work with the Town concerning
the number, size and placement of recycling containers. Should your
