Parking

Restrictions and laws governing Bethany Beach parking permits are effective May 15th through September 15th.  All permits must be clearly displayed in your vehicle and placed either on the dashboard or hung on the rear view mirror.

GENERAL

GENERAL parking permits were designed and implemented to accommodate general parking needs of both the residents of Bethany Beach and tourists during the summer season.

PAY STATIONS are located throughout the east side of Town, replacing many of the single-head meters.  Signs direct vehicle users to the nearest pay station from their parking location.  A pay station is an automated kiosk, which replaces individual parking meters.  The pay station accepts quarters and credit cards, and issues timed receipts (see copy of receipt in left column.  The receipt must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle with the face (shown) side facing up.  There is a small tear off receipt tab at the very bottom of the receipt.  The tear off is designed to be removed and carried with the purchaser to assist them with remembering the expiration time of their purchase.  Upon leaving, the customer may use unexpired time on the receipt at another parking location with the exception that receipts from pay stations not located on Garfield Parkway will not be honored on Garfield Parkway.

Garfield Parkway has a two-hour parking limit, but extension of time is possible by acquiring a new Pay Station receipt prior to time running out.  T
he parking area from First Street south to Hollywood Street on Atlantic and Pennsylvania Avenues requires meter payment from 10 AM until 11 PM.  From First Street north and from Hollywood Street south, the pay to park hours are from 10 AM until 8 PM.  These parking areas can be prepaid for in a minimum of two hour terms and/or up to the maximum time period available.  Parking receipts purchased at the beach street ends may NOT be used in the two-hour Garfield Parkway area.  Hourly parking rates are currently $1.50.

RESIDENTIAL

Upon application, each resident of Bethany Beach will be issued (1) free Residential Permit. Upon request each resident may purchase an additional (1) Residential Permit at a cost of $25.00. Proper utilization of the residential permit requires that the permit be displayed on the rear-view mirror.  The holder of this permit may park at any location designated and marked "Permit Parking". These permits are not valid at any other location, including metered parking areas. Residential Permits are required daily from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Campbell, Central, Hollywood and Parkwood and from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on all remaining streets marked "Permit Parking".  We have 880 permit parking spaces, about 700 of which are on the east side of Route 1.
