Our election on September 6th resulted in the election of:  Jack Gordon, Lew Killmer, Margaret Young and Tony McClenny.  465 Absentee Ballots were received and 617 voted in person during a tropical storm.  Thanks to everyone who participated in our election.

During a special town council meeting on September 17th, town council members elected Jack Gordon as Secretary Treasurer, Carol Olmstead as Vice-Mayor and Tony McClenny as Mayor.

During our July 18th town council meeting, council passed a motion to appoint an ad hoc committee, whose purpose is to review our Zoning Code to determine if any barriers exist to the rehabilitation or repair of homes built prior to 1978.  The committee chairperson, Dan Costello, was nominated by the mayor and confirmed by town council members.  The committee was requested to provide their report to town council on January 16, 2009.

A. Consider Contract to Enhance Pedestrian Thoroughfare in the 300 Block of Central Boulevard (Olmstead)

This will be a 5' wide asphalt walkway on the south side of Central Boulevard between Gibson Avenue and Route 1.
 

B. Consider Contract from Delmarva Paving Company, Inc. for the Fiscal Year 2009 Street Rehabilitation Project for the amount of $228,696.85. (Parsons)

Synopsis

The Street Rehabilitation Project consists of hot mix patching repairs and reclamation and repaving of existing pavement on several streets in Town, as delineated in the following descriptions.

Full Depth Reclamation with Hot-Mix Overlay includes the following:

Location #1 - S. Atlantic Avenue., House #74 and Including Cedarwood Street.
Location #2 - Ashwood Street., Atlantic Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue
Location #3 - Maplewood Street., Atlantic Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue
Location #4 - Fifth Street., N. Pennsylvania Avenue to Route 1
Location #5 - Fifth Street., Evans Road to End
Location #6 - Seventh Street., Evans Road to End

C. Consider Contract from Partners in Recognition for the Purchase of a Memorial Wall for Town Hall for the amount of $21,140.26 (Olmstead)

On behalf of The Bethany Beach Historical Association, Margaret Young presented the town with a check for $3,000 to be used for this project.
 
Synopsis

Contract will allow the Construction of a 5 ft. x 14 ft. long commemorative display at the entrance to the Bethany Beach Town Hall honoring the service of all previous Town Council’s from 1923 to the present. In addition, a portion of the display will contain an informative listing of current Council members to be updated annually.


D. Motion to Amend the current year’s budget, increasing the capital budget by $26,000 for design, purchase and installation of a memorial wall in the lobby of Town Hall. $19,067.77 of this amount will be funded from accumulated revenue of the Cultural & Historic Affairs Committee from the past several years. The remaining amount, currently estimated at $6,172.49, will be funded out of the Town’s current year general revenues. (Olmstead)
