Our town has a number of committees, which are defined below for your information.  

If you are interested in serving on a town committee, please contact one of our Town Council members, the Town Clerk or the Town Manager.  The Town Clerk and Town Manager can be reached by telephone:  (302) 539-8011 or e-mail:  admin@townofbethanybeach.com

 

Here is a list of committees currently in place:

v    Audit Committee
Purpose:  Overseeing relations with the independent auditors on behalf of the Town Council

v    Budget and Finance Committee
Purpose:  To provide assistance and guidance to the Town Manager and staff leading to the development, drafting and review of the Town’s annual budget, both short-term and long-term.

v    Charter and Ordinance Review Committee
Purpose:  To maintain and keep current the Town’s Charter and Ordinances.

v    Communications Committee
Purpose:  To support the Town Council in providing and facilitating timely exchange of information between the Council and Town Government and the public on matters of general interest and concern in order to promote effective dialogue, understanding, public trust and confidence.

v    Cultural and Historical Affairs Committee
Purpose:  Act in an administrative capacity in regards to the Bethany Beach Museum.  This will include recommending policy and establishing guidelines for operational procedures to include overseeing artifacts to be displayed, planning special events, and initiating projects that contribute to the historical and/or cultural aspects of the town.

v    Design Review Committee (non-residential)
Purpose:  To provide assistance and guidance to anyone developing non-residential property (conforming or nonconforming) that is permitted within Bethany Beach and all buildings that are permitted via a special exception and/or variance and are situated outside the C-1 and C-2 commercial districts such as but not limited to churches, libraries, conference centers, professional buildings, storage facilities, medical and emergency facilities.

v    Flood Mitigation and Drainage
Purpose:  To assist the Town Council in providing methods to minimize flooding and facilitate drainage where flooding is a chronic problem.

v    Intergovernmental Relations Committee
Purpose:  Support the Town Council on focusing on issues before other governments and organizations whose actions may affect Bethany Beach.

v    Traffic and Parking Committee
Purpose:  Review issues related to parking and/or traffic matters, in concert with the Town Manager’s Office and Bethany Beach Parking Department, and make appropriate recommendations to the Council, on an as needed basis.
