Bethany Beach Nature Center
 Website Information

The Bethany Beach Nature Center (BBNC) located on Route 26 in Bethany Beach, was in development for a couple of years and opened in June, 2009. The center provides information on flora and fauna found in the 26 acres of conservation area, which includes 3 acres of forested uplands, 9 acres of freshwater wetlands, and 14 acres of tidal wetlands.

Summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day) for the center are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Winter hours are Thursday & Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  After school special program for ages 10 and up is held Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m.  Youth programs are held every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon rain or shine.  The trail is open daily from dawn to dusk.   For information about the BBNC, call:  302-537-7680.  To obtain the monthly schedule for Saturday Children's programs, go to:  www.inlandbays.org and check out the BBNC at the bottom of the home page.

If you would like to learn more about our Inland Bays and find out how you can help out with horseshoe crab surveys, schoolyard habitats, Inland Bays Clean ups, rain gardens, etc. visit:  www.inlandbays.org and click on "What you can do."

The BBNC is housed in one of the earliest cottages built around 1901 and previously owned by the Addy family.  Beautiful, full color panels inside the center provide an education for children and adults regarding wetlands.  The Town is seeking volunteer docents to assist in providing a terrific nature experience for all who enter the doorway and especially to those who travel the nature trail into the wetlands.  The trail is composed of crushed, hard packed stone and supports walkers and allows handicap access.  After you review these pictures, you will probably wish to visit the nature center and view it in person.  Click on a picture to enlarge it to full size.
