As a concerned observer and 10-year Bethany Beach homeowner, I write in support of three Bethany Beach Town Council candidates (two incumbents) for the election September 6th. Tony McClenny, Vice-Mayor and a wonderful example of grass-roots American leadership, has tirelessly and clearly communicated the issues, events and town government deliberations to all interested Bethany residents. Even a passing conversation about the town evokes an intelligent, objective and forward-thinking point of view that inspires trust and reveals Tony’s care and diligence in his roles. Jerry Dorfman, Secretary-Treasurer and active as well in a number of committees, has worked hard and well to raise and (now that the economy has slowed) sustain healthy finances and sound decision-making. Like Tony, a conversation with Jerry reveals a passionate but objective approach to the issues and decisions, energy and enthusiasm for the town’s well being. Anyone who follows Bethany town government knows about the solid efforts and consistent leadership of Lew Killmer over the past several years. As a past Council member, he is by far the best qualified non-incumbent seeking election. Council members are unpaid but work virtually full-time much of the year to ensure that Bethany Beach retains the high quality of life and reputation as “The Quite Resort” it so justly deserves. The team that the current incumbents have formed has demonstrated that they are winners. The policies that have prevailed have withstood what I believe were unfair and uninformed complaints by a small but vocal minority. Since all things change, the question that must be answered is, “Whom can we trust to manage that change for Bethany?” The answer is obvious to me – re-elect Tony and Jerry and elect Lew, and the team will grow even stronger. Sincerely, Edward J. Appel |
