Beach patrol (lifeguard service) coverage Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Junior Lifeguard Program is available for boys & girls ages 10 to 15 years of age.  Classes are limited to 10 participants per session. 
The cost is $60.00 per session and includes uniform, supervised instruction and a Certificate of Participation.  Download an

Beach Rules and Regulations:
No loitering or sleeping on beach between 1 am and 5 am
No alcohol is allowed on beach or boardwalk
No changing clothes in comfort stations, vehicles or public places
No dogs are allowed on the beach or boardwalk between April 1 and October 1
No glass containers or fires are permitted on the beach
May 15th to September 15th smoking is only allowed in designated areas

No surfing except for the designated area north of Ocean View Parkway, between 7 am and 10 am, and 5:30 pm till 8:30 pm through September 30th
  
Bicycles are prohibited on the boardwalk between May 15th and September 30th EXCEPT between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.  Bicycles are prohibited on sidewalks at all times.  Please use the marked bike lanes and drive with traffic.  Helmets are a requirement, if under 18 years of age.  Click here to view the State of Delaware (and Town) bicycle rules.

Dog Regulations
Town Code=CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PET.
Dogs must be leashed & curbed at all times within the State of Delaware.
Dogs are PROHIBITED on the beach and boardwalk May 15 to September 30.
Licenses are required and tags must be worn.
Any dog running at large contrary to these regulations may be delivered to the Delaware SPCA.

Meters/permits are in effect May 15th through September 15th
Daily, 3-Day and Weekly parking permits for metered spaces can be purchased
Parking meters are enforced 7 days / week including Holidays
Handicap parking meters require payment
Meters are in effect from 10 am to 11 pm on Garfield Parkway and from 10 am to 8 pm elsewhere
Parking permits can be obtained from the Town Hall
Residential Parking Permits are required on side streets as posted, must be displayed and cannot be used at meter spaces

Lost owner permits can be replaced for an additional fee
Do not park in the bike path
Do not park in roadway - all wheels must be off the pavement
When "parallel-parking", make sure you are paying the correct meter
Do not park in "Lifeguard" spaces (even at night)

The Bank parking lot is for Bank patrons during business hours, a pay station is in effect after business hours
Municipal parking spaces in front of Town Hall are available for those who have business in Town Hall
Report any meter problems to a parking officer or the Police department
Do not block driveways (even your own) or park on or over sidewalks
All parking spaces east of Route 1 are either permit or meter parking
Parking tickets are issued when a meter has expired for one minute
Parking tickets left unpaid after 14 days, will double
If you want to pay your ticket with cash, please pay at the Police Dept. so you can get a receipt
Payments, along with the ticket, can be dropped into the red Courtesy Box in front of Town Hall
A booth will be in operation at the intersection of Garfield and Atlantic where you can obtain change & information

This program registers "homebound" residents for a daily telephone call to confirm their "OK" status. 
       
Skateboards, roller skates or in-line skates are prohibited on the boardwalk and bandstand and on all sidewalks on Garfield Parkway from Route 1 up to the boardwalk AT ALL TIMES.
       
Smoking - On April 18, 2008 we became the first Town in Delaware to pass an ordinance banning smoking on the beach.  Smoking is prohibited on the beach except in designated smoking areas from May 15th to September 15th.  On a year round basis, we do not allow smoking on the band stand, boardwalk, boardwalk access ramps, all public playgrounds and parks, the Nature Center, Loop Canal and Town Hall.

Voter Registration - Up to eight (8) property owners (your name must be on the deed) are automatically registered to vote in municipal elections.  Registration is required to vote in municipal elections by any person not identified as an owner of record of real property in the Town's tax list.  To be able to vote, a person must be a full-time resident for at least six months prior to the date of the election.  You may register by mail or in person, during normal business hours at Town Hall.  Registration will cease thirty days prior to any election.  Non-property owner residents must file a new registration form, if they have not voted within the past five years.  Absentee ballots are available with certain restrictions.  If you have any questions regarding your current status or voting requirements, please call (302) 537-3771.
